Credwell helps Soul Hub serve the community

Soul Hub started in Newcastle’s Hunter Street in 2003 as Soul Café to serve the needs of the disadvantaged and vulnerable – a purpose the organisation continues to pursue with energy and passion to this day.

Fast forward to the present, Soul Hub is witnessing a rise in the number of disadvantaged individuals within the community who require assistance. While the cafe now serves an increasing number of guests, Soul Hub’s commitment goes beyond merely providing meals. They also offer a diverse range of support services to anyone who comes through their doors, aiming to be a source of comprehensive help and care.

Soul Hub offers many services including drug and substance abuse programs, haircuts, laundry, legal and medical services – whatever their guests need, Soul Hub helps them access it.

With the help of long-standing benefactors, Soul Hub has secured a new and improved space only 1.5 km from the current site that will be able to serve the community for many years to come. The new site at 437 Hunter Street will be purpose-designed, 40% larger, with increased seating and service capacity.

When Soul Hub needed BCA and Access advice for the DA stage for this ambitious fit out project, Credwell was delighted to donate their consulting services free of charge through our ‘Credwell in the Community’ program.

“Non-compliances that arise during construction are often avoidable, and our aim is to assist designers to achieve compliance at the design phase, before onsite defects lead to extra costs that hurt any project, but none more so than for charities who are making every cent count,” said Zoe Brown, Credwell Associate Newcastle.

Greg Gerstl, CEO of Credwell further added, “We are thrilled to be able to assist such an incredible initiative with free-of-charge BCA and Access advice. Supporting grassroots charities achieve their goals is incredibly important to Credwell”.

“Soul is a community response to some deep community needs. This response enables everything and the contributions of big-hearted generous people and organisations like Credwell make all the difference. To have Credwell’s expertise and efficiency in our world has been brilliant!” – Rick Prosser, CEO Soul Hub.
